The wild type version of the LldR-promoter shows nicely that LldR mediates repression, as well as activation of the gene controlled by the promoter. For the case where lactate would only trigger derepression we would expect the final levels of normalized fluorescence to reach the levels in the absence of LldR. But what we see is additional activation on top of derepression, since th final value of normalized fluorescence rises well above the levels in the non-repressed state.
