Something Wonderful Project

Dengue fever is an infectious disease mediated by mosquitoes with the fastest transmission rate worldwide. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2012 shows that there was a significant increase in the number of new cases over the last 50 years. There are about 2-5 billion people living in endemic of dengue fever areas in which 70% of them are living in the countries of Southeast Asia, one of which is our country, Indonesia. It is related to the lack of data collection systems and a comprehensive survey and in accordance with Indonesia's vast geographical circumstances and that consists of many islands. Therefore, we designed a project-based synthetic biology to solve the problem of dengue fever in Indonesia.

We will construct scFv antibody (single chain fragment variable) that can detect dengue virus antigen.

First, we will construct an expression system of E. coli that can secrete a functional antibody fragment by means of plasmid transformation that has been fused with OsmY.

scFv antibody will be put in construction kit. The kit will be able to detect dengue virus in the patient’s sample rapidly and accurately.

We also designed a mobile-based software aimed at supporting the interpretation of detection results from our diagnostic kit.

In addition, the software is able to retrieve data and report the results of a diagnosis that can be directly sent to the central server at the various health care with online system.

Integration between our supporting software to the central server of health services is expected to assist the government in providing data of dengue fever cases in various areas so that the government can immediately intervene quickly and accurately.

The solutions we offer are expected to reduce the incidence and mortality of dengue fever in Indonesia.
