Visiting a high school in Uppsala

We think that it is important to spread information about synthetic biology. We have therefore decided to visit a school in Uppsala. We wanted to inform the students of all the good things that can be done with synthetic biology, and how better to do this than talk about iGEM?

We chose to visit a high school in Uppsala, Rosendalsgymnasiet, to inform the students about synthetic biology and also to gage their opinions of it. We have chosen to focus on the students that study the natural sciences at their last year, and that will study biotechnology in the year to come. The lecture was focused both on teaching the students about synthetic biology, its applications in general and on informing them of iGEM in particular.

The students were very interested in the subject and followed the presentation closely. Afterwards we answered questions about the applications of synthetic biology and about our project. We felt very well received by the school and the students!
