About me
I am Chaitanya Athale, an assistant professor in the division of Biology at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune, India. Work in my lab focuses on cell shape and its regulation by the cytoskeleton. We use experimental and theoretical approaches to tackle the problems, focussing at the moment on Microtubule-Motor interactions and bacterial cell division.
About the team
The IISER Pune team is an undergraduate team with ~13 second year students in a BS/MS dual degree program, a Phd student as a mentor and an overall supervisory role played by an Assistant Professor in biology, Chaitanya Athale.
Location
Located 120 km from the port city of Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay), Pune is an educational hub with an intersting mix of a student population and machine-tool industry. A former retirement pararidise for public servants, it has still not lost a lot of its old-world charm.
The effort from IISER Pune is our first at iGEM and we are looking forward to learning, contributing and having enormous fun with the process.
