            Xochimilco is one of the best known touristic areas of our country, with a great combination between the past and present of our culture. Through this project, we got to learn a lot about the culture of the area and to have a real impact on the society that lives in the surroundings.

            Our investigation has focused on the ecological problems that take place here due to the lack of environmental care and the high amounts of wastes that are disposed in the lake.

            We prepared different posters to attract the attention of people using interesting and bizarre data about the lake and we later interviewed the residents of the area to know their opinion about the situation.

            Later on, we organized an event in the traditional “trajineras” to guide people through the lake explaining the situation of the area, our project, and the importance of taking care of our cultural and ecological heritage.

            “Travesuras” is an annual project that takes place in our campus to invite kids from a government reliant organization called DIF (System for the Integral Development of Families) to celebrate Children’s Day with them and, in our case, teach them about science and how fun it can be.s.

iGem Tec CCM

Meet Up Latinoamerica
Date:
July 10th and 11th, 2015
Objectives:
-Join different teams from Latin America to share experiences, get to know each other and receive opinions about our projects.
-Invite experts to learn from their experiences in the field of science and receive feedback from them regarding our projects.
Description:
Xochimilco is one of the best known touristic areas of our country, with a great combination between the past and present of our culture. Through this project, we got to learn a lot about the culture of the area and to have a real impact on the society that lives in the surroundings.
Our investigation has focused on the ecological problems that take place here due to the lack of environmental care and the high amounts of wastes that are disposed in the lake.
We prepared different posters to attract the attention of people using interesting and bizarre data about the lake and we later interviewed the residents of the area to know their opinion about the situation.
Later on, we organized an event in the traditional “trajineras” to guide people through the lake explaining the situation of the area, our project, and the importance of taking care of our cultural and ecological heritage.
This experience was extremely gratifying as we actually had an impact on the community who we are trying to help through our project. We did not only learned and connected with the people of the area, but also got to explain people the importance of taking care of our patrimony.

Description:
Through this event we got to learn a lot about other teams. We prepared different activities to bond, learn, and comment on our experiences and progress throughout the year.
Our team prepared fun activities to get to know the members of different teams and to create an appropriate space for us to share all our experiences.
Travesuras

-Give kids a special opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time
Description:
“Travesuras” is an annual project that takes place in our campus to invite kids from a government reliant organization called DIF (System for the Integral Development of Families) to celebrate Children’s Day with them and, in our case, teach them about science and how fun it can be.s.
This year we prepared different experiments to perform with them. We taught them how fireworks are made by burning different elements, and how to extract DNA from a banana.
It was very special for us to meet and have fun with children who were extremely excited about being able to behave as scientists for one day. Each one of them got the opportunity to be part of a experiment and many of them told us how interested they were on becoming scientists.
We believe that part of our job as members of the scientific community is creating bonds between young people and our passion, showing them how they can achieve anything they want to if they are brave enough to fight for it.
