iGEM Eindhoven 2014 developed membrane proteins to which they could attach any azide-functionalized molecule. The attachment of DBCO-functionalized molecules happens through the SPAAC Click Chemistry reaction, a fully bio-orthogonal reaction. To enable the attachment, they introduced a non-natural amino acid, exploiting the Amber Stop Codon. They were rewarded the prestigious 'Best New Application' prize for undergraduates for their work. For more information on their project, we refer to their wiki page .
