At dawn of time, the universe was like a gigantic egg and there was nothing but chaos. After about 18,000 years, a giant called Pangu emerged within it. He separated the chaos with his ax. Elements which were light and clean floated up to form the Sky; elements which were heavy and turbid went down to form the Earth. But the sky and earth were still easily mixed up. To keep them separated, Pangu stood between them and pushed up the Sky. With each day the sky grew ten feet higher, the Earth ten feet thicker, and Pangu ten feet taller. It took about another 18,000 years for Pangu to grow to an extreme height. During this period the sky became extremely high and the earth extremely thick.

E. pangu: The Pan Gu of Mars

The discovery of Kepler-452b calls public attention on space immigration again. As a matter of fact, the immigration to Mars, the most earthlike planet in solar system, still should be considered as priority. It is noticeable that CO2 and N2 occupy almost 98% of Martian atmosphere. Thus, we engineered two types of E.coli, which carry out anaerobic carbon fixation with ACS/CODH system, and nitrogen fixation with Paenibacillus nitrogenase respectively. We hope our E. pangu will play the role of pioneer organism on Mars immigration. Based on this purpose, we call them E. Pangu collectively, which is named after the creator of universe, Pan Gu in Chinese mythology. In addition, we used CRISPR-Cas 9 technique to verify our carbon fixation system, and we verified a promoter part we submitted last year.
