Being a Judge
Judging at the iGEM Giant Jamboree is a challenging yet rewarding experience. It is strictly volunteer based. Judges are each asked to evaluate up to 12 teams during the event, which includes scoring the following using a rubric: team projects, team wikis, team presentations and posters, medal criteria, and special awards. This requires a serious commitment from each judge and we expect everyone who agrees to join the judging panel to fulfill their duties to the best of their ability.

Judging Expectations
Understanding and evaluating the projects that iGEM teams carry out can be difficult for both novice and experienced judges. We therefore provide judges with a Judging Handbook to provide some guidance on how to navigate this process. For 2016, we will also provide a wide range of example projects from previous years that judges are welcome to look through prior to coming to Boston. Our goal is to provide this content by January 2016, so please check back for updates!

Judging Application
People interested in being an iGEM judge are asked to fill out an application. New last year, the application asks perspective judges to explain their motivation for judging iGEM, describe any experience they have with iGEM or judging, and clearly state any conflicts of interest. Our goal is to create a diverse and balanced judging panel in terms of nationality, gender, and career path. The judging application for 2016 is under development. Please check back for updates in January 2016!
