As a community if we are able to alleviate some of these stringent submission protocols, it would be possible to create a larger library of mammalian parts which

  1. If iGEM were to provide a starter mammalian kit to every team, or at least interested teams, with basic materials and protocols on our wiki necessary for this type of work
  2. If iGEM were to come up with a sort of shared mammalian space in certain areas where teams are especially interested in this because equipment is not readily available to all teams, we could initiate efforts to create a shared community space with TC hoods, BSL2 certification and other necessary facilities for teams to utilize.
  3. Differ composition and requirements of BioBricks as to make them more suitable for larger constructs.
    • Potentially using two enzymes just for sequencing/submission
    • Furthering use of MammoBlocks because although they exist, proposed and developed by MIT 2010 and 2011, but the backbones/enzymes are proprietary
    • Further characterize BioBricks so that they may be made more compatible with mammalian parts
  4. All of the above ideas will increase awareness of mammalian syn bio, but to go even further there could be extra awards for teams who are able to utilize mammalian constructs to show health applications
    • A simple award/medal could be “Best Use of Alternative Chassis” which could include plant, mammalian, or any other innovative bacteria
