This summer, CityU iGEM team visited different high schools around Hong Kong to engage students in an interactive yet informative module designed by the team in an attempt to increase public awareness about synthetic biology.
Students enjoyed themselves in the process of learning new knowledge out of the box. They expressed intense interest when they are exposed to curriculum apart from their learning syllabus.
It is definitely a good platform for the younger generations to broaden their horizon.

From our outreach program, we can observe that students are actually more knowledgeable than we thought. They do know briefly about synthetic biology and its daily application, but since not much is being explored and talked about by their teachers and peers, this issue is usually avoided. Through our interaction, it is clear that the barrier that lies between synthetic biology and the younger generation is the lack of adequate means for proper discussion.
