There are many things I find attractive about iGEM. For example, in iGEM we can give shape to the ideas that we created, interact with students from all over the world, and learn the basics of research. Although I am the leader of this year’s team, there have been many moments when my teammates helped me. I believe that I can achieve something great with them.

iGEM has given me the opportunity to learn about biology and experience the world out of my field, which is mechanical engineering. It has also given me the chance to learn more about computer simulation. Through iGEM, I hope to do my best and communicate with various people around the world.

I am so lucky that I have a chance to participate in the 2015 Giant Jamboree. The Jamboree provides a great opportunity for us to present our projects to people from all over the world. I’ve decided to join the team because I have been interested in doing biological experiments and have been wanting to improve my English more through the presentation. I bet this will be the most meaningful summer in my life.

I would like to experience as many interesting things as possible, while I am a student. That is why I’m now participating in iGEM. I am constructing parts for iGEM. I’m looking forward to talking to people from all over the world during the tournament.

I’m glad that I joined this team. I believe that the experience in iGEM would be my life time treasure. I’m a student of Tokyo Institute of Technology, and I study biotechnology. However, I also wanted to study art, especially watercolor painting. After the tournament, I would like to draw pictures and watch a lot of movies all day long.

iGEM is a very precious opportunity for students who do not belong to laboratories, to do research. By attending iGEM, I would like to interact with students from all over the world and be stimulated by their intellect. I hope my experience in iGEM would help in the future when I become a biologist.

Hi, I'm Takahiro Kashiwagi. I'm a junior at Tokyo Institute of Technology. I major in Bio Technology, and I belong to the department of Bioengineering. I've always wanted to do something challenging, and something that is fun. When I started university, I heard that there was a hard but challenging competition called iGEM, I decided to take part in this interesting competition. Now I am participating in iGEM 2015 as one of the members of Tokyo Tech. I have also been wanting to study abroad to broaden my perspective before I graduate. I lived in Texas for 3 years when I was small, and I went to high school in Switzerland for a year as an exchange student. This experience broadened my view, and influenced me a lot. This made me feel that I have to go somewhere abroad, while I'm in the university. I'm sure that iGEM would be a good way to accomplish this goal because it allows us to communicate with students from many foreign universities. Our goal is to receive a gold medal, and win an award. My teammates and I are now doing, and will continue doing our best to be successful in the competition. I'm going to be one of the presenter of this team. I'll do my best. After the competition, we will visit some labs in Boston. I'm really looking forward to it. By the way, I really love reading mangas so if there's anybody who is reading this and also likes mangas, please tell me.

I decided to take part in iGEM because I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to learn about synthetic biology. I have always been interested in gene recombination. I have once done a gene recombination experiment in class, but I found it very difficult. Therefore, I would like to acquire more lab skills through this competition.

I decided to take part in iGEM because I wanted to know the very basics of research. In research, every step we take must be logical and rational. Therefore, learning the basic process of research will lead to the understanding of logical thinking. I believe that these ways of thinking logically that I will learn through these next few month, can be applied in numerous situation and would ultimately help out in my future career.

I decided to take part in iGEM because I wanted to improve my English ability and lab skills. Thanks to this opportunity, I have become much more confident in English than I used to. I hope my experience in iGEM will be helpful in the future.

Yuki Sasahara

School of Technology
  Department of Chemical Engineering(Applied Chemistry)

I do not study biology. I study chemistry. I decided to join iGEM because I can think differently from biology students. I am not good at using English. Therefore, I want a chance to speak with many foreign students. I will do my best.

Yuta Yamazaki

School of Biotechnology and Bioscience

I decided to participate in iGEM because I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to compete with academic students from all over the world. I also find it very attractive that in iGEM, students must cooperate to achieve one common goal. I am sure that my experience in iGEM will be an unforgettable and precious part of my life.
