~Public Outreach&Dialogue~

For the dialog with the public we contacted various media and explained them about our project and about synthetic biology in general. We chose to contact the public events and Internet, because it is an efficient way to reach as many people with as many different backgrounds as possible. Explaining our ideas we learned a lot, because we really had to focus on a general, more marketing-like view about our project, instead of only concentrating on the scientific, technical aspects.

Cloud founding

In generally, we explain our project and iGEM and survey by questionnaire. Other teams always use the questionnaire, too. On the other hand, we devised new innovation. Our innovation is “Cloud funding”. We surveyed our project by money. (Movie revenue, CD download revenue .etc) We set a goal that our project was supported $20,000,000 ($1=\100) by public. Finally, our project was supported $31,020,000 ($1=\100) by public! We were surprised at this result! It was found from this result that many people were interested in our project! We think great innovation that the system can use the support not only to survey but also to experiment in our project. In Japan, only our team succeeded to “Cloud funding”.
