Yuwei Han

Hi, I am Yuwei, a year four student in XJTLU biological science. I am sure iGEM is the most exciting and challenging competition I’ve ever experienced. Before iGEM, I also had internships in other institutes. Thus, I am responsible for the experiment parts. For me, the iGEM competition is a big opportunity for me to make a breakthrough of myself. It is not only about a great deal of new knowledge, technique and experience I can get from the experiment. Moreover, it gives me a chance to actually participate in the generation of an innovation, from the development of a new idea to finally give rise to the final production of an item.

Jiongjian Li

Hello, I’ m Jiongjian Li, a third year student major in Biology of XJTLU. This is my first year to join iGEM and it is a great honor to join this competition. The best thing in this world is thinking about new idea. That is what I do in this team. Also, I am willing to work with other teammates to achieve our goals.

Tiange Li

Hi I’m Tiange Li (Mag) and this is my first tour of iGEM. I believe it would be one of the most extraordinary things happened in my year 3 biology study. When there is a chance to make an effort on a self-designed experiment, everything taught in lectures becomes vivid and the discoveries made before just sound more exciting. I like the idea of genetic circuit and fortunately this is what we are heading for. Up to now what I’ve done most are literature review, I fresh myself when reading research articles. Thanks for my teammates' help; I now do it more efficiently. I really enjoy the time spending with them, sharing information and taking a walk from the lab. So...just hope we can finally make it!

Requirement 3: Human practice
We did survey about iGEM, synbio, biosafety, global warming, and GMO. People who participated in the survey learn about synthetic biology and would like to join in iGEM next times. Refer to biosafety, people realize its significant and are more concerned about safety issues. In addition, people worry about climate change and genetically modified foods. We guided them to have a green life and always eat healthy food.

Gold

Requirement 1: Human practice expanding
First, during iGEM workshop in Shanghai ST-museum, we displayed our project as well as synthetic biology to the public. We tried to explain our idea to people without any biology background; thereby we achieved much experience of educating public, and people get knowledge and happiness from us. In addition, we used LEGO robot to mimic protein translation for presenting project. It is a creative way, by using LEGO robot, to introduce synbio and educate the public. LEGO robot is popular all over the world; people accept and like to play it. Therefore, while we using our LEGO robot to present protein translation to public, all of them can understand and feel interested in this bio-synthesis process. We tried to educate people, particularly children, with this funny method and allow more people participate in biology filed.

Requirement 2: Help other team
We provided plasmids, E. coli and Arabinose for NYU-Shanghai to support their experiment. We synthesized the two kinds of functional plasmids. One was the plasmid of FwYellow chromoprotein BBa, noted for K1033910. Another was that of Aeblue chromoprotein BBa, noted for K1033902. We also supplied 5000uL of BL21 competent cell for them to create new type of E. coli. For inducing the expression of chromoproteins, we gave them Arabinose as inducer. All these biology materials were packaged hermetically and Victor Zhou sent them to teammates in NYU-Shanghai in person in order to prevent any separation during transportation. Three weeks ago, they used our donation and made more samples. They thanked us a lot and we were also proud of supporting other groups in iGEM competition.
