Team Freiburg 2015

(jb 20150908)

This year’s iGEM team consists of 19 students from many distinct scientific fields including chemistry, physics, biology, informatics and medicine. Our team is supervised by Jun. Prof. Maximilian Ulbrich and Dr. Nicole Gensch, both being part of the scientific staff of the BIOSS Centre for Biological Signalling Studies. We also get advice and support from some former iGEM participants who are sharing their experiences and knowledge with us.

What would I have studied instead
Clinical Monitor (Clinical Research Assistant), Stem Cell Research
Funniest lab diasaster
We once had fertilized eggs in the lab for a practical course. After the course, one was left and I asked if we could further breed it.
So it was kept in an incubator until it hatched. We called the chick Urmel-Emma. We had her for about 2 weeks, but she got louder from day to day because she was the only chick in our lab and I couldn't attend her all day long. So in the end I had to give her away, but she now lives with a nice farmer family close to cologne.

Funniest lab diasaster
We had two samples for scanning tunneling microscopy: Graphite and gold. For better pictures you can take sellotape, put it on the graphite and rip it off to order the surface. When we unconsciously did the same with the gold probe, the probe was still there but the gold was on the sellotape -> probe completely destroyed
