<p>iGEM teams are unique and leading the field because they "go beyond the lab" to imagine their projects in a social/environmental context, to better understand issues that might influence the design and use of their technologies.</p>

Consideration of these Human Practices is crucial for building safe and sustainable projects that serve the public interest. </p>

It is very important that scientists work with the general public in an open manner so that we can understand the issues that come when new research is applied. There can sometimes be gaps between this type of discussion in the forms of paywalls, jargon and misleading articles, and it is crucial that we address these issues - especially when research evokes controversy, such as with genetic engineering. As part of our efforts to reconcile the publics understanding with forefront research, we have prepared a <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1a66vpWoSTOy8tSIfleb-exIqaHmIzeO95nuVnFrWOkA/viewform">survey</a>. We invite anyone and everyone to participate so that we can better understand what worries the public about scientific research and what can be done to alleviate these worries!
