ABSTRACT

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K) are the three macronutrients for plants, deficient in any of these could lead to plant diseases. A biological sensor, which could provide to plant owners on fly soil status could prevent plant diseases due to the lack of nutrients.

In the past years of iGEM competitions, although multiple teams have worked on nitrate and phosphate responsive promoters, none of them attempted to provide a potassium responsive promoter. In view of this, our team are constructing a biological sensor in E. coli , which could detect NPK level in the surrounding environment and give responses in the form of colours. In addition, anticipating the needs to express more than one output in the same system, we are characterizing the effects of dual output system, compare with the single output system.
